Interior of the 4th Century Jvari Church
An UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jvari (Holy Cross) Church is one of the most revered Christian sites in Georgia, built between 585 and 604 AD on the site where King Mirian of Kertli (eastern Georgia) erected a wooden cross after his conversion to Christianity in the 4th century. The church is a classic of early Georgian tetraconch design with four rounded arms of equal length.
