Ashgabat, meaning the City of Love in Persian, is the capitol of Turkmenistan. When Turkmenistan became a country in 1991, its president, Niyazov, began ambitious building programs that continue to this day. The entire skyline of Ashgabat is filled with bright white marble and golden domes, golden statues and construction cranes. The gold domed building in this photograph is the new Presidential Palace
