Wild Things…
There is no question that photography has played a major role in the environmental movement.
For me this was a bit of a nostalgic trip down memory lane with many images scanned from film, some photographed in the mid 80s, others more recently.
Still, one of the most thrilling moments in my wildlife photography experience was approaching a goliath heron in a floating blind in the Umgeni River Estuary in Durban back in the 80s. As you will see in one of the images below, this largest of herons was sunning itself, wings open, in the late afternoon sun, and it seemed totally unconcerned by my concealed presence. Photographed with a Canon F1 on Fujuchrome Velvia 50 and a Canon FD 500mm f4.5L manual focus lens. This is one of my Top 10 life images.
